Job summary

Professional Technical Ltd is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for our West Midlands team. You will design bespoke lifting and handling equipment for heavy industry, taking projects from concept through detailed manufacturing drawings, and delivering compliant, safe designs.

You will use Autodesk Inventor and Vault to produce 3D models and documentation, perform hand stress calculations and apply FEA where needed, while coordinating with manufacturing, sales and QA to meet customer

Qualifications

• Minimum HND; BSc preferred.
• Experience designing special purpose machinery in heavy industry.
• Strong mechanical engineering knowledge.
• Hands-on stress calculations and/or FEA.
• Familiar with British and international standards (BS EN, LOLER, PUWER, UKCA).

Responsibilities

• Design lifting and handling equipment for heavy engineering.
• Take concepts to detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Create 3D models with Inventor and Vault.
• Prepare stress calculations; use FEA where needed.
• Produce risk assessments and ensure standards compliance.
• Support manufacturing, testing, installation and commissioning.
• Collaborate with sales and manufacturing to meet requirements.
• Identify technical challenges and cost-effective solutions.
• Produce reports, certificates, quality records and manuals.
• Ensure designs are safe, manufacturable and viable.
• Manage multiple live projects.
