Job summary

ALTEN is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of complex defence and security systems in a highly regulated environment. You will deliver detailed mechanical designs, generate compliant documentation, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams from concept to manufacture.

Location is Belfast with 2-3 on-site days per week, seniority 5+ years, and SC clearance eligibility. You will lead design reviews, produce drawings to BS 8888 standards, and manage changes and BOM

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical design within defence or other regulated industries.
• Proficient in producing detailed mechanical designs and documentation.
• Experience with CAD/CAE and creating BS 8888 drawings.
• Familiarity with change control, BOM management and configuration control.
• Ability to deliver work packages and lead design reviews.

Responsibilities

• Leverage engineering fundamentals to solve complex technical challenges and support key design decisions.
• Produce detailed mechanical designs using CAD/CAE tools.
• Maintain product documentation according to established engineering processes.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders for robust, manufacturable designs.
• Perform engineering change activities while maintaining BOM integrity and configuration control.
• Produce engineering drawings per BS 8888 standards.
• Lead and participate in formal design reviews.
• Deliver mechanical work packages across the product lifecycle.
