Job summary

Morgan Hunt is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design of building services across projects, delivering sustainable and technically excellent designs from concept to completion. You will mentor junior engineers and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality technical delivery on time.

• Significant experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, heating, cooling, ventilation, and water services.
• UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, and relevant British Standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of building services projects across multiple sectors.
• Produce detailed designs for HVAC, public health, and related systems.
• Prepare calculations, specifications, reports and documentation.
• Coordinate designs with other disciplines (electrical, structural, architectural).
• Attend client meetings, design reviews, and site inspections.
• Ensure compliance with current regulations and standards.
• Review and mentor junior engineers and manage workloads and budgets.
• Contribute to sustainable, low-carbon engineering solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer who enjoys delivering innovative, sustainable, and technically excellent mechanical building services designs across a diverse range of projects. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, you will lead the mechanical design of projects from concept through to completion, ensuring high-quality technical delivery while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the continued growth of the business.

Role

• Lead the mechanical design of building services projects across multiple sectors.
• Produce detailed designs for HVAC, public health, and associated mechanical systems.
• Prepare calculations, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
• Coordinate designs with electrical, structural, architectural, and other design disciplines.
• Attend client meetings, design reviews, and site inspections.
• Ensure compliance with current regulations, British Standards, and industry best practice.
• Review and check the work of junior engineers and provide technical guidance and mentoring.
• Manage project workloads, budgets, and programme deliverables.
• Contribute to the development of sustainable, low-carbon engineering solutions.

Qualifications / Experience

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
• Significant experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water services, and renewable technologies.
• Experience using industry-standard software such as Hevacomp, IES VE, Revit MEP, AutoCAD, and MagiCAD (or equivalent).
• A sound understanding of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, and relevant British Standards.
