Job Description:

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Industrial Recycling Technology

Location: Wrexham (On-site) transitioning to Daresbury (Hybrid)

About Company/Role Join a pioneering UK start-up transforming waste into raw materials for new products. They are seeking a talented Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to develop efficient solutions for their rubber waste processing technology, ranging from small component designs to extremely large plants and machinery. You'll initially focus on their jetting safety cabinet - a critical first step in bringing the breakthrough technology to market - before expanding to the full range of their innovative systems. This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with the engineering team to develop systems that will transform the recycling industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop mechanical systems ranging from components to complete industrial plants
  • Create detailed CAD models, engineering drawings and simulations
  • Lead projects from concept through to operational validation and installation
  • Collaborate on safety-critical systems design and high-pressure equipment
  • Work with subcontractors, manufacturing teams and research partners
  • Conduct testing, performance analysis and troubleshooting
  • Support installation, commissioning and decommissioning activities

What's On Offer

  • Competitive salary up to £85,000 (Negotiable DOE)
  • BUPA Health Insurance & vision care
  • Enhanced pension contributions
  • Ongoing training & development opportunities
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Opportunity to be part of a ground-breaking technology company

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Strong CAD experience (SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD, CATIA or similar)
  • Experience with high-pressure systems, fluid management, or wastewater treatment
  • Proven track record in mechanical design and project delivery from concept to completion
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with hands-on approach
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience with safety-critical system design and dynamic systems
  • Knowledge of industrial automation, processing equipment or manufacturing processes
  • Background in start-up or fast-paced environments
  • Understanding of industry standards, regulations and compliance
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or similar certification

Important: This role requires on-site presence in Wrexham initially to enable close collaboration with the engineering team during the critical development phase. Once the safety cabinet is successfully developed, the role will transition to the Daresbury R&D centre with hybrid working options. Flexible start/finish times available to accommodate commuting.
