Job description

Overview

There are not many Senior Mechanical Design Engineer roles like this one, especially in York. You will need a building services design background for this post; it isn’t for you if you are an expert in a different field. The role offers truly flexible working and a focus on sustainability and social impact.

Responsibilities
  • Join the building services design team in York as a Mechanical Design Engineer or Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, specialising in building services.
  • Work mainly on rail-related schemes, not only in the UK but also in projects delivered from York for Dubai and Europe, contributing to large-scale rail projects from your home office or workspace.
  • Operate across all aspects of mechanical building services design and work within a BIM environment beyond Revit, in a collaborative, cutting-edge setup.
  • Engage with partners professionally while maintaining a relaxed culture; contribute to sustainability-focused initiatives and building physics discussions as relevant.
  • Pursue Chartered status as a benefit; receive support to achieve it, or have your on-the-job experience valued if chartership is not your current goal.
Qualifications
  • Specialist experience in building services design; chartered status is beneficial but not mandatory.
Benefits & Culture
  • Extremely flexible working terms with locations that fit you, not fixed offices.
  • 26 days holiday, with the option to buy up to 10 additional days per year.
  • 8% employer pension contribution (with a 4% employee contribution), enhanced sick pay, Group Income Protection, and life insurance.
  • BUPA private medical insurance and a wellbeing programme including health checks, wellness champions, social events, and fitness challenges.
  • Opportunities to contribute to social impact projects that focus on sustainability and community benefits.

They deliver social impact. Their projects are often classed as infrastructure, with a focus on sustainability, minimising environmental impact and helping communities work better while connecting more effectively with the wider area.
