Job summary

Airbus Helicopters UK Limited is hiring a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Oxford to lead bespoke helicopter modifications from concept to manufacture. You will own designs end-to-end and mentor a small engineering team on complex assemblies.

The role requires strong CATIA V5 and AutoCAD skills, experience with PLM systems, and a solid grasp of tolerancing and aviation standards. You will collaborate across multiple work packages to deliver certified solutions.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent with solid experience in mechanical systems design.
• Experience supervising a team of mechanical design engineers.
• Strong CATIA V5 skills and AutoCAD experience.
• Proficient with PLM systems (Enovia SmarTeam or ARAS).
• Solid understanding of tolerancing and GD&T practices.
• Familiarity with aviation standards (CAA Part 21, CS-27/CS-29, Def Stan 00-970).
• Knowledge of manufacturing methods including sheet metal, CNC, plastics vacuum forming and composites.

Responsibilities

• Taking customisation projects from early concept through detailed design and into manufacture.
• Owning the technical quality of your designs and ensuring regulatory and certification requirements.
• Managing how new systems integrate into Airbus Helicopters products.
• Planning and scheduling design work across several work packages at once.

Lead the design of helicopter customisations at Airbus Helicopters UK, from first sketch to finished aircraft.

Cubiq is working with Airbus Helicopters UK Limited to hire a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at their Oxford site. The team designs and integrates bespoke modifications on Airbus helicopters, and this role leads that work. You’ll own your designs from start to finish and lead a small team of engineers along the way.

What you’ll be doing

• Owning the technical quality of your designs and making sure they meet customer, regulatory and certification requirements
• Managing how new systems integrate into Airbus Helicopters products
• Planning and scheduling design work across several work packages at once
• Leading and mentoring a small team of mechanical design engineers

What you’ll bring

• A degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Structural Engineering, or an HNC/HND or engineering apprenticeship backed by solid experience in mechanical systems design
• Experience supervising a team of mechanical design engineers
• Strong CATIA V5 skills, plus AutoCAD
• Experience with PLM systems such as Enovia SmarTeam or ARAS
• A good understanding of tolerancing and how to apply it
• Working knowledge of manufacturing methods, including sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, plastics vacuum forming and composite lay-up
• Confidence reading mechanical drawings and specifications
• Knowledge of aviation standards such as CAA Part 21, CS-27/CS-29 and Def Stan 00-970
