Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Data Centre's

Salary: £55k + Competitive Benefits including car allowance

Location: Hybrid with Manchester office

The Opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to take full responsibility for the design and delivery of mechanical services for complex and mission-critical projects, including data centres. This is a key role where you will lead the coordination of mechanical and electrical design, working closely with clients, designers, subcontractors, and commissioning agents to ensure seamless project execution.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead Mechanical Design – Take full accountability for the design of mechanical services, ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements and project specifications.
2. Design Management – Oversee mechanical designers, reviewing and approving designs to ensure quality and alignment with project demands.
3. Project Coordination – Lead design meetings with the project team, ensuring effective communication, change management, and problem resolution at all stages.
4. Engineering Support – Provide technical support to site teams during installation and commissioning, maintaining an audit trail through design, procurement, and project execution.
5. Pre-Construction Strategy – Support the technical strategy at the bid and pre-construction phase, contributing specialist design input to secure successful outcomes.

What We’re Looking For

1. Recognised qualification in Mechanical/Building Services Engineering (BEng/MEng) or significant demonstrable experience.
2. Proven experience in mechanical services design for data centres and other critical environments.
3. Ability to lead and mentor engineers and designers, driving high performance and innovation.
4. Strong knowledge of compliance, sustainability, and industry standards (BREEAM, Part L, CFD, FEA).
5. Experience managing design from pre-construction through to installation and commissioning.
6. Ability to resolve complex installation and commissioning challenges efficiently.
