Job Description:

The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll have a role that is out of the ordinary. You will have a significant impact on the UK’s future technological capabilities. Example projects include high-energy defensive laser weapon systems such as Dragonfire; counter-drone systems such as Obsidian; and sensors and payloads for high altitude platforms such as Zephyr.

Day-to-day, you’ll be able to work collaboratively across multiple projects, technology domains, and locations.

Your responsibilities will include:
  1. Take ownership of mechanical design deliverables, ensuring high-quality, innovative solutions are provided while adhering to project timelines and specifications
  2. Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including clients and multidisciplinary teams, to gather requirements and ensure alignment throughout the project lifecycle
  3. Facilitate and contribute to design reviews, ensuring all aspects of mechanical systems meet functional, safety, and performance standards while incorporating feedback from peers and stakeholders
  4. Manage and prioritise multiple design projects daily, balancing short-term deliverables with long-term goals in a fast-paced environment
  5. Regularly engage with project teams across various disciplines to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs into broader system architecture
  6. Play a key role in critical design reviews, offering technical insights and proposing improvements to enhance the overall performance, reliability, and manufacturability of products

This role is 37 hours per week based at Malvern. Hybrid working patterns available.
