Experienced Senior Mechanical Design professional required within an established and highly successful automation and materials handling solutions specialist environment. Our client is part of an established Group that specialises in the provision of bespoke materials handling solutions to a diverse range of customers and industry sectors worldwide. As a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic, and self-motivated Senior Design Engineer to join their professional project design engineering team.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will liaise extensively with other departmental managers including Sales, Service, Purchasing, Production, and Projects, as well as the customer. The main responsibilities include creating bespoke designs or updating existing systems on a range of products using Inventor for 3D modelling and producing 2D drawings for manufacturing. Core tasks involve using Inventor for both 2D drawings and 3D modelling, and AutoCAD LT for 2D layout work. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience designing machines, sheet metal, and machined parts, with proficiency in Inventor and AutoCAD.

The role also involves preparing product manuals with technical details, compiling engineering documentation such as spares lists and test reports, performing engineering calculations, and ensuring designs comply with relevant legislation and standards (e.g., ISO, H&S). The candidate will use "Opera" to create bills of materials and contribute to new product development through research, working closely with Production and Procurement to ensure solutions are fit for purpose and parts are delivered on time and to standard.

Exceptional communication skills and a flexible approach to travel are essential, as the role requires occasional visits to customer sites and working away from home to maximize customer satisfaction. An organized and methodical working style is necessary to handle multiple projects and adapt to schedule changes. A full UK driving license is also required.
