Job Description
Reporting to the Design Supervisor, this position is responsible for the following duties:
Technical Duties:
- Perform conceptual and detailed mechanical engineering design activities for OCIs McClean Lake uranium mining/milling facilities in northern Saskatchewan.
- Ensure mechanical/piping systems meet all technical, safety, and quality specifications and standards, and ensure regulatory and QA/QC requirements are met.
- Independently manage smaller projects with limited supervision, meeting deadlines and ensuring successful completion.
- Support updates of technical documentation within all areas of an interdisciplinary engineering team.
- Analyse and measure as-built conditions and update documentation accordingly.
- Research and respond to Requests for Information.
- Coordinate technical field activities during construction.
- Provide mechanical technical support to other Orano Canada departments as required.
- Coordinate information requests during fabrication and construction; participate in shop and site visits to ensure acceptance of approved design and compliance with codes and schedule.
- Collaborate with other departments (Operations, Maintenance, Safety, Radiation Protection, Services, etc.) on various projects.
Training and Mentorship:
- Provide technical guidance, support, and mentorship to junior designers and technologists.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new team members.
- Promote and uphold engineering and safety standards, design protocols, and site-specific practices.
Document Revisions and Archiving:
- Maintain and manage McClean Lake technical documents in the Orano document repository system.
- Contribute to updating, reviewing, and optimizing group procedures and workflows.
- Review documents for accuracy and quality.
- Ensure engineering consulting firms follow Orano’s design requirements and standards.
- Ensure engineering documents (project documentation, drawings, engineering data sheets) adhere to Orano’s project requirements, quality standards, and specifications.
- Prepare equipment specifications, data sheets, and tender documents; support order expediting for timely installation and construction.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Supervisor, Design.
Qualities and Skills We’re Seeking:
- Two-year Engineering Technologist diploma from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical system design within an industrial environment.
- Will have or will immediately obtain and maintain registration with Technology Professionals Saskatchewan.
- Solid understanding of multi-disciplinary process systems, including process/slurry piping, tanks, structural steel, and equipment selection.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Expertise in AutoCAD Plant 3D, including 3D modeling, isometric generation, and specification management.
- Experience using Navisworks for model reviews and integration of point clouds is an asset.
- Familiarity with laser scanning and point cloud registration is an asset.
- Experience with MicroStation is also considered an asset.
