Job Description:

You will be responsible for leading the development and execution of strategic, integrated, compelling, and competitive marketing communications plans for the Investment Trust businesses managed by Columbia Threadneedle Investments. The role has a focus on the UK Direct to Consumer channel. In delivering growth objectives for the Investment Trusts, the role must ensure clear alignment with the broader marketing strategy and corporate messaging, as well as contributing directly to the business objectives for this channel.

Delegated Authority:

  • Support development and effectively execute the marketing strategy for the investment trust client companies and leverage the UK Direct to Consumer channel.
  • Achieve marketing targets in line with agreed KPIs for the relevant business area, and Columbia Threadneedle Investments' risk appetite.
  • Support the Head of Marketing in managing and influencing key relationships with the Investment Trust Boards of Directors.
  • Develop marketing strategies to maximize opportunities, manage existing clients, and establish relationships externally across the industry and distribution chain.
  • Execute all marketing activities within the agreed budget.
How you'll spend your time:
  • Support the Head of Channel Marketing (UK Direct) in managing relationships with approximately 8 Investment Trust boards, including attending Boards as required.
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Channel Marketing (UK Direct) to shape Investment Trust marketing strategies and independently follow through on commitments and implementation plans.
  • Own and drive activation of Investment Trust marketing strategies and plans, tracking KPIs and optimizing activities.
  • Establish D2C platform provider relationships, leveraging paid media and content opportunities.
  • Coordinate with Columbia Threadneedle Distribution/Sales, Intermediary Marketing, Creative services, and PR to maximize planning and outcomes.
  • Regularly calibrate content strategies for Investment Trusts, working with the Senior Marketing Manager (UK Direct) to ensure strategic briefs and SEO insights are incorporated.
  • Develop social media strategies for individual Investment Trusts aligned with their Board strategies.
  • Support activation of bespoke PR mandates, leveraging initiatives for amplification and demonstrating effectiveness to Investment Trust boards.
  • Proactively assess emerging D2C marketing needs and ensure positioning aligns with marketing trends and shareholding growth.
  • Align plans with our digital-first marketing approach focused on engagement and commercial objectives.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing D2C Channel Marketing team, fostering positive engagement.
  • Collaborate with distribution and investment leaders to align marketing strategies with overall business and product strategies.
  • Challenge norms to deliver significant improvements in client experience and results.
  • Advocate for appropriate use of our brand and marketing activities, ensuring alignment with corporate messaging and guidelines.
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Strong experience and understanding of D2C channels and routes to market.
  • Client-focused, commercially driven, with excellent budget management skills.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with Investment Trust Board members and influence at senior levels.
  • Proven marketing expertise with results to demonstrate.
  • Experience developing marketing strategies within Financial Services and D2C businesses, including campaign management and measurement.
  • Knowledge of marketing media mix, promotions, and communications relevant to retail investors.
  • Project management skills from briefing to execution and analysis.
  • Proactive, accountable, and ownership-oriented mindset.
  • Leadership skills to influence and manage teams and external partners.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing, including paid media, SEO, and social media.
  • Proficient copywriting and presentation skills for senior stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and change management skills.
  • Experience with campaign management tools like Workfront is beneficial.
It would be great if you also had:
  • Marketing qualification and experience in client-focused, commercially led marketing roles, ideally with financial product knowledge.
