Job summary

Copello is partnering with an established marine technology organisation expanding its presence in the UK Defence sector. The Chief Engineer will provide technical leadership, engineering assurance and governance across complex maritime and subsea programmes.

This senior role acts as Technical Authority, shaping processes and coordinating with customers, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams. Hybrid working is available with the Hampshire office two days per week, and eligibility for UK

Qualifications

• Strong Defence engineering background, ideally maritime, naval, submarine or subsea programmes.
• Experience with subsea systems, underwater technology or autonomous maritime systems.
• Previous experience as Chief Engineer, Technical Authority or Engineering Authority.
• Knowledge of the full engineering lifecycle from requirements to acceptance.
• Ability to provide engineering assurance and governance on complex programmes.
• Experience working with UK Defence customers (MOD/SDA preferred).
• Strong ability to communicate complex technical matters to engineers, leadership and customers.

Responsibilities

• Act as a senior Technical Authority across complex maritime and defence programmes.
• Provide overall engineering assurance, governance and technical oversight.
• Ensure appropriate engineering processes, standards and controls are applied across the full lifecycle.
• Provide technical leadership across systems, integration, design, development, verification, validation and acceptance activities.
• Review and challenge technical decisions, engineering risks and programme assumptions.
• Support technical reviews and ensure solutions are safe, compliant and appropriate for their environment.
• Work with customers and stakeholders across the UK Defence community.
• Provide technical guidance and leadership to multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Support the continued development of engineering capability and governance as the organisation grows.
