Job description

Cornwall Council’s Maritime Section are looking to appoint a full time Senior Maritime Assistant for Penzance Harbour.

This is a busy harbour dealing with commercial and leisure operations and this role will assist the Harbour Master with the efficient and effective administration, operation and control of Penzance Harbour in accordance with statutory requirements, Council policies and necessary commercial considerations.

You will be responsible to supervising a small team, managing moorings and other maritime facilities, fuel sales, repairs & maintenance to marine structures, ordering equipment & supplies and also deputising for the Harbour Masters role when needed.

The successful candidate will need experience of working within a maritime environment, including repairs to marine structures and managing assets such as moorings. You will need experience of dealing with customers, managing your own workload and a good understanding of the maritime industry and its issues. You will need excellent IT skills, particularly in the use of Excel and databases.

This role will mainly be working Monday to Friday but with some flexibility to meeting the needs of the service and cover for the tidal shift pattern maybe required at times during the year.

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm for working in maritime and the port industry. That can work with the Harbour Master and the Maritime team to develop this harbour to its full potential.
