Job summary

HOP Consulting Ltd is seeking a Chartered or near Chartered Senior Marine Engineer to support our Marine and Civil teams on projects across ports, highways, flood defence, energy and heritage sectors. The role demands a Chartered or progressing professional with 5+ years in Civil Engineering and a strong capability in design, reporting and client liaison.

Qualifications

  • Chartered or near Chartered Engineer status preferred.
  • ICE-accredited degree ideal, training towards Chartership available.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out design of Civil Engineering structures.
  • Provide consultancy through inspections and reports.
  • Manage small to medium design projects from inception to completion.
  • Ensure project documentation complies with management systems and procedures.
  • Mentor junior engineers and graduates.
  • Liaise with directors and clients on project issues.
  • Lead development of fee proposals for small to medium works.
  • Manage projects to meet timescales, budgets and quality.

Job Title: Senior Marine (Heavy Civils) Engineer
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
Location: Brighton

We have a vacancy for a Chartered or Near Chartered Engineer with 5+ years experience in Civil Engineering sectors. The candidate will support our Marine and Civil Engineering teams who are currently engaged in newly secured work in the ports, highways, flood defence, energy and heritage sectors. Relevant experience in Highway Structures, Tunnelling, Geotechnics etc will be considered.

Candidates will ideally have appropriate degree level learning accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers. However, HOP can assist and support a Chartership qualification under our approved ICE training Scheme.

You will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out design of Civil Engineering structures
  • Providing consultancy advice through inspections, reports etc
  • Managing small to medium design projects from inception through to completion
  • Ensuring project related documentation is compliant to Business Management systems, processes, and procedures
  • Mentoring junior Engineers and graduates
  • Liaising with Directors and clients on project issues
  • Leading in development of fee proposals for small to medium works
  • Managing projects to keep within timescale, budget constraints and to meet quality expectations
  • Preparing monthly reports and fee forecasts
  • Ensure the professional development of yourself and those that you mentor
  • Engage in HOP social value initiatives including, but not limited to, career talks and career fair attendance

Skills and Experience

  • Chartership or working towards Chartership
  • Full clean UK driving license
  • Broad engineering knowledge
  • Strong attention to detail
  • High level of personal efficiency, time management skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands
  • Structural design experience and knowledge of relevant design standards
  • Ability to write quality reports
  • Ability to lead/coordinate delivery of design drawings to clients
  • Experience in, or willingness to take on, team leadership and mentoring junior Engineers
  • Good all-round technical design expertise using British, European and International standards
  • Experience of managing and leading inspection work
  • Experience administering construction projects
  • Managing resources and budgets
  • Specific marine/coastal/maritime/diving experience
  • Specific experience in the energy, bridge and historic conservation sectors
  • Experience in managing teams
