Senior Marine Engineer

Our client is a trusted consultancy renowned for solving complex marine engineering challenges across the commercial and defence sectors. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, analysis, and integration of marine systems across a range of commercial vessel projects.
  • Develop technical solutions across feasibility studies, engineering investigations, and in-service change projects.
  • Engage with industry stakeholders, suppliers, and clients to create innovative marine engineering designs.
  • Produce system schematics, vessel arrangements, and technical specifications using AutoCAD and 3D CAD tools.
  • Conduct design surveys, resolve in-service defects, and ensure compliance with classification codes and construction standards.
  • Manage engineering tasks and contribute to the broader delivery of consulting and R&D projects, including support to the defence domain.
  • Support junior staff through mentoring and technical guidance.
  • Collaborate across internal teams and attend customer or office sites as required, with occasional travel across the UK and overseas.

  • Qualifications & Experience
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Ideally Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or actively working toward it).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in marine vessel design (15–70m+), particularly in commercial shipbuilding.
  • Strong understanding of marine system integration, construction techniques, and design optimisation for buildability and weight.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and ideally 3D CAD; confident in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to lead technical projects.
  • Flexible, commercially aware, and able to prioritise multiple tasks to meet project deadlines.

  • Desirable Skills
  • Experience in the defence domain.
  • Familiarity with PLM software or document management systems.
  • Ability to coach and mentor colleagues.
  • Adaptability to work across varied projects and client environments.
