Senior Marine Engineer

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design, analysis, and integration of marine systems across a range of commercial vessel projects.

Develop technical solutions across feasibility studies, engineering investigations, and in-service change projects.

Engage with industry stakeholders, suppliers, and clients to create innovative marine engineering designs.

Produce system schematics, vessel arrangements, and technical specifications using AutoCAD and 3D CAD tools.

Conduct design surveys, resolve in-service defects, and ensure compliance with classification codes and construction standards.

Manage engineering tasks and contribute to the broader delivery of consulting and R&D projects, including support to the defence domain.

Support junior staff through mentoring and technical guidance.

Collaborate across internal teams and attend customer or office sites as required, with occasional travel across the UK and overseas.

Qualifications & Experience

HNC/HND or Degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering.

Ideally Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or actively working toward it).

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in marine vessel design (15–70m+), particularly in commercial shipbuilding.

Strong understanding of marine system integration, construction techniques, and design optimisation for buildability and weight.

Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and ideally 3D CAD; confident in Microsoft Office.

Strong project management, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to lead technical projects.

Flexible, commercially aware, and able to prioritise multiple tasks to meet project deadlines.

Desirable Skills

Experience in the defence domain.

Familiarity with PLM software or document management systems.

Ability to coach and mentor colleagues.

Adaptability to work across varied projects and client environments.
