Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Huddersfield
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join a leading Advanced Engineering OEM specializing in highly complex Electro-Mechanical Machines & Systems for Aerospace & Space, Medical, Energy & Power, Motorsport, and Defence applications. Based at their UK HQ in Huddersfield, this role will be pivotal in driving technological advancements and operational efficiency, with a main focus on:
- Manufacturing & Process Engineering
- Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Systems Engineering Focus
Key Responsibilities include:
- Leading the development and optimization of manufacturing processes to improve quality, cost, and efficiency.
- Providing technical expertise and troubleshooting support for production issues, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
- Driving Continuous Improvement initiatives using methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and Root Cause Analysis.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including design, quality, and production, to ensure smooth product transition from design to manufacturing.
- Participating in engineering design reviews to offer feedback on manufacturability and testability.
- Leading failure analysis investigations to improve reliability and manufacturability.
- Applying mechanical and electrical engineering principles to support development, testing, and troubleshooting of systems.
- Working with systems engineering principles to ensure seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and software components.
- Developing test rigs, fixtures, and automation tools to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product validation.
- Supervising and leading a small team of manufacturing and assembly staff (circa 3).
Skills and Experience Required:
- Engineering Degree or Qualified by Experience (preferably Electrical, Systems, Mechatronics, or Electronic Engineering).
- Solid background in electrical or electronic principles applicable to manufacturing technologies.
- Functional knowledge of PLC / Software integration.
- Prior experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in a high-tech environment such as Aerospace, Automotive, Defence, Capital Machinery, or Electronics.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing/assembly processes and electrical testing and troubleshooting.
- Ability to integrate and optimize complex systems within manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in LEAN / 5S / Six Sigma / Kaizen methodologies, including conducting audits and facilitating workshops.
- Proven track record of driving continuous improvements through innovative engineering practices.
