Job Description:

The Ethical and Sustainable Value Chains Team at De Beers is a dynamic and diverse team striving to advance practices in the diamond value chain and protect consumer confidence in natural diamonds.

This role is a fixed term contract for 12 months.

In this role, you will report to the Head of the Department and work closely with them, including on the following responsibilities:

  1. Support the Head of Department in integrating existing and new frameworks and initiatives that establish ethical, sustainable, and transparent value chains to support commercial projects, meeting legislative requirements and stakeholder expectations.
  2. Develop, establish, and implement ethical and due diligence mechanisms related to the diamond value chain and De Beers’ business models across its group companies.
  3. Support in establishing human rights due diligence processes that meet legislative requirements and other key frameworks, and lead related workstreams.
  4. Chair and lead the De Beers Human Rights Working Group.
  5. Provide leadership, advice, and direction to the Responsible Sourcing and Due Diligence team supporting legislative and commercial commitments on AML, business integrity, human rights, and ethical standards.
  6. Contribute to team development, motivation, and engagement.
  7. Lead and provide technical expertise, solutions, recommendations, and management of ethical standards.
  8. Benchmark De Beers’ standards against other key standards and recommend improvements to meet stakeholder expectations and manage risks.
  9. Advise on and implement changes to the BPP Programme, including change management strategies.
  10. Review and engage with stakeholders on regulatory or legislative changes affecting human rights due diligence, AML, or ethical standards.
  11. Establish strategies for new processes, policies, and approaches, integrating them into the BPP Programme.
  12. Support the development of the ‘ethical integrity’ brand through responsible sourcing standards in the jewelry supply chain.
  13. Oversee the implementation of Responsible Sourcing policies for diamonds, precious metals, and gemstones across De Beers’ brands.
  14. Manage reporting related to Building Forever commitments, human rights, and responsible sourcing.
  15. Lead the delivery of the Group’s Modern Slavery Act Statement and other reports.
  16. Manage due diligence related to ethical, legal, and reputational risks, including AML, sanctions, human rights, and environmental issues.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or professional qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive experience managing ethical/ESG value chain initiatives.
  • Strong experience in setting and managing standards through multi-stakeholder processes.
  • Experience in programme and project management.
  • Experience in ESG, Human Rights, or Due Diligence policy setting and implementation.
  • Ability to handle complex systems and workstreams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Knowledge of relevant business principles and international standards (e.g., human rights laws, labor laws).
  • Numerate with good presentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Responsible Jewellery Council requirements.
  • Travel may be required.
