Job description

Description

We are looking to appoint an Employment Tax specialist at Senior Manager or Director level to join our growing Employer Services team. The final level and scope of the appointment will reflect the successful candidate’s experience, leadership capability and track record of contributing to business growth.

You will manage a varied portfolio of clients across a broad range of industries, providing practical and commercially focused advice on complex employment tax and compliance matters. The role sits within a wider, integrated Employer Services offering. Working closely with colleagues across payroll, HR, immigration and global mobility, you will help clients navigate an increasingly complex regulatory environment and deliver joined-up advice across the employee-lifecycle.

This is a highly client-facing position that requires strong technical knowledge, commercial judgement and the ability to explain complex tax legislation clearly to non-specialists. You will lead and develop junior colleagues, manage senior client relationships, identify opportunities and work alongside our Partners to support the continued growth of the Employment Tax service line.

For an appointment at Director level, the role will also include greater responsibility for strategic leadership, business development, market profile and the commercial performance of the service line.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide practical, commercially focused advice across a broad range of employment tax matters, including employment status, PAYE, National Insurance, benefits, CIS and National Minimum Wage.
  • Lead PAYE health checks and support clients with HMRC enquiries, reviews and disclosures.
  • Advise on P11Ds, PAYE Settlement Agreements and the transition to payrolling benefits in kind.
  • Work with our international network on cross-border employment tax and globally mobile employee matters, where required.
  • Manage the delivery of client work, ensuring deadlines, quality standards, budgets and billing requirements are met.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, Partners and colleagues across the firm.
  • Provide technical guidance to the firm’s payroll specialists and wider Employer Services teams.
  • Lead, support and develop junior colleagues, including reviewing their work and providing technical coaching.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships and introduce relevant services from across the firm.
  • Contribute to pitches, proposals, presentations and other business development activity.
  • Support the Partner and Directors in developing the Employment Tax service line, improving efficiency and winning new work.
  • For a Director-level appointment, take greater responsibility for strategic growth, senior client relationships, market profile and business development.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • ATT or CTA qualified, or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of technical expertise gained through relevant experience.
  • Strong Employment Tax experience, including advisory work across PAYE, benefits, employment status and compliance.
  • Experience managing HMRC enquiries and reviews, with the confidence to lead interactions directly.
  • A good understanding of payroll processes and how Employment Tax advice affects payroll operations.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of clients and delivering complex advisory work to agreed deadlines and budgets.
  • Strong commercial judgement, with the ability to understand clients’ needs and translate complex legislation into clear, practical advice.
  • Experience leading, reviewing and developing the work of junior colleagues.
  • Confidence building relationships with senior clients, Partners and colleagues across different service areas.
  • A proactive and organised approach, with the ability to take ownership of work and drive it through to completion.
  • Experience contributing to business development, including identifying opportunities, supporting proposals and developing client relationships.
  • Share scheme experience would be advantageous but is not essential, as specialist support is available within the team.
  • Experience advising small and medium-sized businesses is desirable, with multinational client experience also welcomed.
  • For appointment at Director level, a demonstrable track record of winning work, developing senior client relationships and contributing to the strategic and commercial growth of a service line will be required.
Job Benefits
  • Generous Annual Leave: Enjoy 25 days plus three days off at Christmas (27 days at Director level)
  • Flexible Working: We're committed to a positive work-life balance, offering a hybrid working policy that prioritises your well-being and flexibility.
  • Comprehensive Wellbeing Support: Private Health Insurance, Access to Digicare+, Employee Assistance Programme, and more!
