Job description

At EY, you’ll have the chance to build a career as unique as you are, with the global scale, support, inclusive culture and technology to become the best version of you. And we’re counting on your unique voice and perspective to help EY become even better, too. Join us and build an exceptional experience for yourself, and a better working world for all.

Today, a company’s value is increasingly reflected not just in its short-term financial performance, but also in its ability to deliver value to multiple stakeholders, including consumers, employees, governments and wider society. How organisations respond to global challenges such as climate change and inequality are critical in how they deliver and demonstrate value to stakeholders.

The opportunity

The Climate Change and Sustainability Services (CCaSS) team are looking for a Senior Manager to help grow our presence in Belfast. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and expand a high-performing sustainability team, supporting clients as they navigate the evolving ESG, climate risk, and decarbonisation agenda. We work closely with businesses to help them understand and manage climate-related risks and opportunities, adapt to new and enhanced regulations, integrate sustainability into business models, and enhance transparency in reporting.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Lead sustainability consulting and assurance offerings while building out EY’s Belfast CCaSS hub;
  • Provide technical expertise in climate change, sustainability strategy, and ESG reporting;
  • Play a key role in business development and client relationship management; and
  • Mentor and develop junior team members, ensuring the long-term success of the Belfast practice.

Your key responsibilities

As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to work with many of the world’s largest and most influential companies across industries and sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading client projects, where you will be expected to contribute both deep subject matter expertise in climate change as well as building strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders alike. As an influential member of the team, you will help create a positive and proactive learning culture and will undertake coaching with team members to help them develop.

As a Senior Manager in Belfast you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and delivering client engagements, providing subject matter expertise and ensuring high-quality outputs are produced and delivered to clients;
  • Managing commercial aspects of client projects, including budgeting, adhering to EY’s risk management policies and procedures, and communicating progress and escalating any significant issues to partners and clients;
  • Driving business development by building new relationships with clients, industry networks, and internal teams;
  • Developing sustainability service offerings, particularly in climate risk, nature and decarbonisation agendas, and emerging ESG frameworks;
  • Strengthening internal collaboration, working across EY’s sustainability, assurance, and consulting teams to develop cross-service strategies; and
  • Building and mentoring the Belfast team, providing coaching, pastoral care, and professional development support, ensuring a supportive and high-performance culture.

Skills and attributes for success

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Strong technical expertise in climate change, ESG reporting, and decarbonisation;
  • Experience in business development, including pitching for projects and managing client relationships;
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
  • Leadership experience, including mentoring and managing teams; and
  • A commercial mindset, with an ability to identify and develop new service opportunities.

To succeed in the role, you will ideally have experience/qualifications in some of the areas below:

  • Supporting companies with ESG reporting in accordance with mandatory and voluntary reporting frameworks such as CSRD, ISSB and TCFD.
  • Developing and/or implementing carbon reduction roadmaps, net-zero strategies, and transition plans.
  • Conducting greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) footprinting, scenario analysis, and physical / transition risk assessments.
  • Designing and undertaking climate risk and vulnerability assessments and developing adaptation plans using different quantitative and qualitative research and analytical techniques.
  • Experience developing sustainability-related reports and disclosures in accordance with ISSB, GRI and SASB amongst others.
  • Understanding UK & EU regulatory landscapes, particularly across transportation, energy, consumer goods, and real estate.
  • Communicating climate risks and ESG disclosures to senior management, boards, and investors.
  • Experience leading successful research or commercial bids.
  • Strong academic background in areas such as environmental science, economics, engineering, public policy - amongst others.
