We are seeking a highly motivated and energetic Senior Management Accountant (SMA) to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Finance Business Partner, the SMA will be responsible for delivering a high-quality, customer-focused management accounting service and supervising one team member.


Main duties of the job


Candidates should have experience in NHS Finance or similar, with strong technical and communication skills. The ability to organize a varied workload and problem-solve is essential. Up-to-date knowledge of NHS management accounting and budgeting is required.

Job description


Job responsibilities


Key responsibilities include:

  1. Ensuring all management accounting duties are fulfilled, including annual budget-setting, in-year monitoring, forecasting, variance analysis, and providing training and advice to budget holders.
  2. Providing financial analysis and advice to the Divisional Operations Director, Clinical Directors, and other managers. Regular meetings with budget managers to identify potential financial or performance issues early and produce robust income, expenditure, and cash forecasts, including benchmarking and opportunity identification from the Trust's PLICS system.
  3. Managing all aspects of budgetary control within the division, monitoring performance, and advising on corrective actions. Leading the division in the annual budget setting process.

Person Specification


Education


  • Actively studying towards a CCAB (or CIMA) qualification or able to demonstrate qualification by experience.

Experience


  • Relevant experience in management accounting, including forecasting and budget setting.

Knowledge


  • Thorough experience of financial management within a complex environment, including budgetary control, forecasting, and management information systems.

Desirable Experience


  • Managing and developing staff experience.

Skills & Abilities


  • Ability to plan, organize workload, meet deadlines, and balance competing priorities within a demanding environment.
