Job summary

TPH Global in the UK payroll and accounting sector seeks a hands-on Senior Management Accountant to own the UK finance function, lead a small team, and report to the local Head of Operations and the Australia-based fractional CFO.

You will manage payroll finances, month-end reconciliations, client payments, and provide management commentary to help drive accuracy and efficiency in a high-volume service business.

With offices in London and Australia, we continue to grow and expand our team. We work in a flexible hybrid model with team members usually in the Twickenham office 3 days per week.

We're searching for a hands‑on Senior Management Accountant to take ownership of the day‑to‑day running of the UK finance function, leading a small finance team and reporting to the local Head of Operations, with a secondary line to the Australia‑based fractional CFO, to keep a busy, high‑volume payroll business running accurately and on time.

The Role

This is a hands‑on role with genuine ownership. You'll run the UK finance operations that keep a busy, high‑volume payroll business accurate and on time, from releasing client payments and weekly reconciliations through to month‑end, while leading and supporting a finance team of three. We're a service business, and finance is part of what our clients pay for, so being responsive and easy to deal with matters here as much as technical strength.

We expect this role will see you:

• Own the finance side of the client payroll cycle, releasing payments once invoices are paid and funds reconciled, and making accurate, on‑time payments to HMRC, pension providers and industry schemes (including the Directors Guild, Screen Actors Guild and Equity arrangements).


• Keep client funds and treasury under close watch across the accounts, making sure client money is in and reconciled before each run goes out, so wages are never released against funds that haven’t landed.


• Run weekly bank reconciliations across multiple client accounts, resolving discrepancies and keeping everything accurate and complete.


• Prepare monthly management accounts, and provide budget‑versus‑actual and cash‑flow analysis with clear, useful commentary for management.


• Oversee TPH's own payroll and VAT returns, and keep the weekly cycle running reliably.


• Lead and support a finance team of three, allocating and reviewing work, holding regular one‑to‑ones, and keeping the team organised and delivering to deadline.


• Keep core finance procedures documented and current, raising any control gaps early.

Higher‑level financial planning, forecasting, strategy, and year‑end and audit sit with our fractional CFO, so you can focus on doing the finance work brilliantly rather than being pulled away from it. This is an ideal role for someone who genuinely loves the craft of accounting, thrives on order and accuracy, takes real pride in a clean set of books and a well‑run team, and enjoys finding better, more automated ways to run a finance function.

To be effective, we believe you'll need:

• A qualified, finalist or strong qualified‑by‑experience accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).


• Solid experience across management and transactional accounting, reconciliations and month‑end.


• A good understanding of payroll and related statutory obligations, including HMRC, pensions and VAT.


• Experience reconciling high transaction volumes and managing multiple bank accounts.


• Experience supervising or managing a small finance team, allocating and reviewing others' work.


• A clear communicator who's comfortable dealing directly with clients and stakeholders at all levels.


• Advanced Excel, and a commitment to using AI and finance tools to work efficiently.

Experience in payroll services, a bureau environment or financial outsourcing would be a real bonus, as would familiarity with finance systems, integrations and automation tools.
