Job description

Seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Management Accountant to join the Accounts Department of a highly regarded law firm. This role is crucial in providing detailed management accounts and budgets, with a focus on compensation and benefits expenses. If you are a proactive individual with a passion for accounting and a commitment to continuous improvement, we want to hear from you! This is a permanent opportunity, based in Central London, with 4 days a week in the office.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the European office compensation and benefits annual expense budget.
  2. Prepare monthly management accounts reports.
  3. Produce monthly budgetary control variance analysis.
  4. Review and prepare monthly general ledger analysis details.
  5. Lead quarterly management accounts review meetings with departmental managers.
  6. Prepare and maintain monthly payroll journal entries.
  7. Oversee monthly payroll accounting and prepare reconciliation of all staff benefits.
  8. Ensure payroll expenses are properly accounted for in the firm's general ledger.
  9. Oversee the accurate recording of payroll liabilities, including taxes withheld.
  10. Prepare quarterly expense forecasting.
  11. Assist with the preparation of the UK PAYE Settlement Agreement expense analysis where required.
  12. Prepare annual government data surveys.
  13. Develop monthly expense reporting required by the European office managers.
  14. Assist with the review and authorization of office payments where required.
  15. Provide cover for processing new accounts payable vendor requests where required.
  16. Assist with the development of the European office management accounts key data package.
  17. Mentor and develop other Management Accountants.
  18. Support the Accounting Manager with accounting projects.
  19. Report to the Accounting Manager regarding all work duties and tasks.
  20. Provide cover for Accounting team members during periods of absence.
  21. Liaise with the New York Accounts department where necessary.
  22. Handle ad-hoc queries and reports as required.
Key Skills:
  1. Degree educated, with a BA in Accounting or similar preferred.
  2. Qualified Accountant preferred.
  3. Legal or professional services accounting experience, with 5+ years required.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills.
  5. Experience using Elite 3E or a comparable accounting system preferred.
  6. Strong understanding of UK VAT rules.
  7. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from people at all levels, including Partners, staff, and external customers.
  8. Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
  9. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  10. Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  11. Ability to anticipate work needs and follow through with minimal direction.
  12. Excellent attention to detail.
  13. Sound judgment.
