Qualifications

• 5 to 10 years of experience in heavy industry/manufacturing as an Electrical/Mechanical Engineer.

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Maintenance Engineer to provide competent and cost-effective maintenance and engineering support, advice, solutions, and techniques to maximize plant availability safely and in compliance with legal standards.

Responsibilities include:

1. Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements as per the OHS Act.
2. Supporting ISO standards (ISO 9020, 14001, 50001, 55001, OHSAS 18000) for engineering, educating the team on these standards, and monitoring adherence.
3. Driving plant reliability monitoring to enable proactive maintenance and reduce unplanned downtime.
4. Communicating objectives, schedules, and budgets to the team, providing updates, and addressing deviations.
5. Identifying cost-effective plant or design improvements, preparing business cases, and obtaining approval within Sappi guidelines.
6. Managing spare stock levels and approving spare parts via the XCPIMs system.
7. Monitoring equipment failures, conducting root cause analyses, and suggesting process or equipment changes to prevent recurrence.
8. Managing equipment renewal and capital projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget, following standard project management practices.
9. Participating in multi-disciplinary team meetings to resolve plant issues and foster strong relationships with production teams.
10. Conducting thorough Root Cause Analyses, involving specialists when necessary, and implementing solutions, including business case development for expenditures.
11. Ensuring Quality Control Plans (QCPs) are in place and meet Sappi standards, updating them for new equipment or identified weaknesses.
12. Overseeing recruitment, performance management, development, and discipline within the maintenance and production team.

Qualifications include:

• BSc/BEng/BTech/Advanced Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5 to 10 years of experience in heavy industry/manufacturing as an Electrical/Mechanical Engineer.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary maintenance teams.
• Government Certificate of Competency.
• MDP or similar qualification is advantageous.
• Paper Machine experience is a plus.
