Job description
Overview

Applications are invited for the post of Post CCT Clinical Fellow in Hepato-biliary medicine. The post is based at the Wythenshawe Site of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, where we have a team of 13 consultant gastroenterologists. The department has comprehensive GI services including all therapeutic endoscopy, hepatology, PB medicine, IBD, nutrition and a tertiary referral, neurogastroenterology service. A comprehensive and expanding endoscopy service is provided by the Trust; all diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic modalities are performed including a tertiary EUS / ERCP service. There are approximately 1,100 ERCPs performed annually and 35% of those are regional tertiary referrals. All aspects of complex biliary and pancreatic intervention are undertaken, including bilateral hilar stenting, pancreatic stricture endotherapy, endoscopic cyst-gastrostomies and Spyglass. EUS services are rapidly expanding in tandem with ERCP demand; besides standard radial and linear EUS/FNA, we are at the cutting edge of EUS-based approaches to pancreatobiliary disease (such as EUS guided biliary access or combined EUS/ERCP biliary rendezvous procedures).

Responsibilities

The post holder will receive extensive training in pancreato-biliary endoscopy (ERCP and EUS) and will also contribute service activity to assist with the requirement of the Gastroenterology Department at Wythenshawe.
  • Wythenshawe Hospital (MFT) has HPB and lower GI cancer centre status and Gastroenterologists, Surgeons, Specialist nurses, Radiologists, Oncologists, Dieticians, Physiotherapists etc. There is a weekly multi-disciplinary meeting at Manchester Royal Infirmary (MFT) for Liver and Pancreato-Biliary surgery.
  • The appointee will be expected to undertake some service endoscopy lists and gastroenterology clinics as well as to participate in ERCP, EUS, post-ERCP ward rounds and research. He/she will be expected to take an active interest in research/publications which is a major priority for the Department. The appointee would also be expected to assist our ERCP Service coordinator with some administrative aspects of the day-to-day running of the service, to lead the ERCP weekly Departmental meetings and to present patients to the local and regional HPB MDTs
