Overview

We are at a pivotal point in our tech progression. We're looking to grow the technical estate, replace existing systems with new and scale and develop the platform. It's an exciting time to join the team in this captivating period.

As a Senior Linux/SysAdmin Engineer you will be part of the Partnerize Technical Operations team, who work with the business, development and IT functions. You will be responsible for ensuring the continuous development and progression of the team members. You’ll be building the infrastructure, delivering projects and processes required to ensure we remain available, scalable and secure. You are responsible for the platform's security, you will work closely with the security compliance team to ensure our platform is secure from any threats. Involved in support, project delivery and maintenance activities completed by the Operational Team. You are responsible for ensuring all issues/problems are addressed in a timely manner by the team.

You should have a keen interest in problem-solving accompanied with experience in Linux systems, an understanding of web servers, basic database skills and have an interest in DevOps and systems administration.

We’re looking for a mix of technical generalists, specialists, candidates that are new to IT or very experienced. For us, it's more about the person and the character than the role. We need people that will get excited about taking us to the next stage of our evolution helping us with their specific skills and experience but learning new ones along the way.

As a hands on Senior Linux/SysAdmin Engineer at Partnerize, You Will:

  • You'll dive deep into the tech, shaping what the SRE team takes on by effectively scoping and delegating work.
  • Share your expertise directly through mentorship and knowledge-sharing sessions with individuals and the team.
  • Provide crucial hands-on operational support and engineering for our large, distributed software applications.
  • Get your hands dirty building software and systems that truly manage our platform infrastructure and applications.
  • Measure and optimize system performance, pushing our capabilities forward, anticipating customer needs, and innovating for continuous improvement.
  • Directly improve the reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our suite of software solutions.
  • Actively drive improvements to Partnerize platform security through strategic planning and collaboration with the security compliance team.
  • Craft production-grade application security designs from the ground up.
  • Perform essential design reviews and Threat modeling for our services and products.
  • Conduct vital vulnerability assessments and security testing.
  • Lend your subject matter expertise on all areas of security and privacy throughout the Software Development lifecycle.
  • Liaise closely with development teams for design input, code reviews, and education.
  • Help shape our security strategy, contributing to tooling selection and creation.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and code reviews.
  • Partner directly with development teams to enhance services through rigorous testing and release procedures.
  • Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning, bringing your unique perspective.
  • Work closely with development and tech teams, ensuring technical issues and projects are managed precisely.
  • Deliver impactful small and large technical projects promptly and efficiently.
  • Act as a key escalation point for Support Incidents and assignments, always upholding high quality.
  • Champion continuous improvement, continuous delivery, and continuous integration.
  • Be a vital part of our on-call rotation.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Ability to mentor and coach team members
  • Ability to prioritise workload including take the lead on Incidents and Problem management
  • Able to scope the work coming into the team and delegate appropriately
  • Represent TechOps to the wider business and liaise with the other departments
  • Develop the technological career paths for the individuals on the team.
  • Strong experience of databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis)
  • Understanding of scripting languages (Python, Bash, PHP)
  • Expertise with a programming language (Python, Go or Java)
  • Experience of security in a DevOps environment
  • Coding experience for automating/integrating security tools
  • Knowledge of security in distributed systems at scale.
  • Experience of performing security design reviews, threat modelling and risk assessments.
  • Extensive knowledge of internet security issues and/or mobile security issues.
  • Knowledge of platform or application automated deployment and configuration management (Ansible, Docker,Terraform etc)
  • Cloud and containers technology knowledge essential (AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Able to troubleshoot, diagnose and solve issues independently.
  • Self-learner, ability to document learning as experience is gained.
  • Experience as part of a team supporting and maintaining an infrastructure.
  • A proactive approach to spotting problems, areas for improvement, and performance bottlenecks
  • Knowledge of and experience with the ITIL practices.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • An interest in development, new technologies and innovation
  • Supporting development teams into the refactoring of technical debt
  • Kubernetes, docker and containers
  • Experience with monitoring systems, e.g. Zabbix, Nagios etc.
  • Experience of JIRA and Confluence
  • Nginx or web server technologies
  • Gluster or storage technologies
  • Git and version control
  • Elasticsearch technologies - especially Kibana
  • Experience with Apache Kafka and Druid
