Job summary

Norstella is seeking a Senior Life Sciences Knowledge Engineer in the UK to join a cross-functional team of data scientists, ML engineers and data engineers. You will curate high-quality fine-tuned datasets and author annotation guidelines to guide predictive analytics and client insights across life sciences projects.

You will translate domain expertise into model-ready patterns, shape model behavior, and ensure dataset provenance and regulatory compliance while collaborating closely with SME

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in life sciences, medical sciences, computer science or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in production-grade life science datasets, including with AI-enabled applications.
• Experience with structured publishing platforms and data tools; comfort with automation concepts.
• Experience working with and statistically analysing large and complex data sets, including data cleaning and preprocessing.
• Experience working with Generative AI, especially LLMs, including agents, throughout the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC).
• Experience creating MCPs and consuming them into Agentic workflows.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and communicate between technical and non-technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Translate complex clinical, regulatory, and life sciences subject matter expertise into repeatable patterns for model training with SMEs and ML engineers.
• Develop methods and parameters of model behavior based on requirements and rapid iterations.
• Design, build, and refine fine-tuning datasets with input/output pairs to demonstrate end-to-end behavior.
• Author and maintain annotation/guidelines to ensure consistent schema and vocabulary.
• Define task taxonomy and output schema with data scientists for production readiness.
• Train SMEs to run eval rounds and translate feedback to tool layer improvements.
• Run iterative dataset experiments to close gaps and measure impact with SMEs.
• Maintain provenance, licensing, and compliance for every dataset (GxP/regulatory).
• Conduct new proofs of concept for novel domain capabilities.
• Contribute to knowledge base and agentic workflow design.
