Job summary

City of Doncaster Council seeks a Senior Legal Officer specialising in housing disrepair, with related work on housing possession and injunctions. You will deliver high quality legal advice, advocacy, and casework alongside the Litigation team and St Leger Homes of Doncaster.

You must be qualified as a Solicitor or Barrister (or ILEX Fellow) with a current practising certificate, and be prepared to work within a busy public sector housing litigation service. Hybrid working is supported.

Qualifications

• Experience in housing litigation and disrepair claims.
• Qualified solicitor, barrister or ILEX with current practising certificate.
• Public sector housing litigation experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality legal support, advice and advocacy for housing disputes, mainly housing disrepair.
• Handle possession and housing injunction work within the Litigation team.
• Support Head of Service and Team Manager on complex legal matters and liaise with St Leger Homes of Doncaster.

You have an opportunity to be part of this in the role of a Senior Legal Officer focussing on housing disrepair, alongside housing possession and injunction work.

Duties include:delivery of high quality legal support, advice and advocacy in relation to housing litigation work, mainly focusing on housing disrepair civil claims. The role will also include possession and housing injunction work and other work carried out by the Litigation team and to support the Head of Service and the Team Manager on complex legal matters. The role will involve working with and supporting St Leger Homes of Doncaster who the Arms Length Management Organisation that manage our council house stock.

As a Qualified and admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court or called as a Barrister* or is a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives* (*and are authorised to conduct litigation) and holding a current practicing certificate, you will work with other dedicated legal professionals to provide quality legal services to the Council and for St Leger Homes of Doncaster.

You will work within the Litigation team with a bright and friendly team of lawyers.
