About International Privacy & Data Protection Department
The International Privacy & Data Protection Department is committed to ensuring that the company's products and services adhere to appropriate data privacy and protection requirements. Our team collaborates closely with product teams and other internal teams, and our responsibilities include researching international data privacy laws, supporting the day-to-day operations of product teams, and offering comprehensive internal data privacy compliance training. We are dedicated to upholding the company's commitment to privacy and regulatory compliance.

  1. Provide privacy legal advice and day-to-day support required to Tencent’s global businesses.
  2. Advise on compliance across all aspects of global privacy laws and regulations, including data protection, data security, and data breach rules.
  3. Develop and implement programs to facilitate compliance with international data privacy and personal information collection rules, regulations, and standards, including the GDPR, CCPA, and PDPO/PDPA.
  4. Manage outside counsel for all privacy law projects.
  5. Draft, review, negotiate, and administer legal and commercial documentation.
  6. Analyse global privacy legal requirements and oversee keeping our stakeholders abreast of all new privacy laws and regulations that may have implications for Tencent.

Requirements:

  1. Juris Doctor (degree from an accredited law school in the United States, Canada, or its equivalent in another jurisdiction strongly preferred).
  2. Common law qualified lawyer with at least 5 years PQE, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience.
  3. Able to work independently but work well in a team environment.
  4. CIPP/E, CIPP/US, and CIPM certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
  5. Experience in dealing with privacy issues relating to international businesses. Experience in the design and implementation of a global privacy compliance program is a plus.
  6. Strong interest in the internet and cloud service space.
  7. Track record in problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  8. Proactive approach and able to handle matters independently.
  9. Sound interpersonal and communication skills.
  10. Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese (Mandarin) to communicate with HQ.
