Qualifications

Job description

EQUANS is looking for a Legal Counsel to join our team in Bevis Marks, London, on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working Monday to Friday. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

Equans UK&I has an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel within its Places and Communities (P&C) division. P&C offers refurbishment housing services to a broad range of public and private sector clients, and sustainable energy management. This role reports directly to the Head of Legal for the P&C division. You will work closely with the P&C legal and business teams, especially business development, commercial, and senior management, as well as externally with legal advisers, contract counterparties, and customers. You will provide timely, high-quality, practical, and commercially focused legal advice, balancing legal risk with the business's commercial needs.

What will you deliver?
  • Providing commercially focused legal advice on a broad range of projects, ensuring compliance with applicable law.
  • Reviewing, negotiating, and drafting agreements, and conducting contract negotiations with project counterparties, primarily for construction, refurbishment, and related services.
  • Supporting on commercial and contractual matters for tenders, projects, variations, and ongoing contractual and operational issues.
  • Assisting in the governance of transactions at local and group levels.
  • Working closely with colleagues throughout the group and with customers.
  • Managing external legal resources as required.
  • Developing and delivering training on legal matters for colleagues across the business.

Who are we looking for?

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • UK-qualified solicitor or barrister with 3 to 6 years of post-qualification experience (flexible depending on quality of experience).
  • Experience in private practice and in-house roles preferred but not essential.
  • Understanding of UK construction contracts, including JCT and NEC forms.
  • Experience with public procurement is preferred.
