BIG is looking for a highly experienced, talented, and motivated Senior Legal Counsel to join the dynamic and expanding London studio.

We operate with a flat hierarchy and a collaborative spirit, united by the mission to craft the world we want to live in, shaping the future one project at a time.

Our London office is growing rapidly, and we are seeking a dedicated Senior Legal Counsel responsible for providing effective legal support to the Managing Director and Director of Business Development.

You will be part of BIG’s Legal Department, which has 8 members supporting offices globally. The team shares knowledge and develops company standards collaboratively, fostering a friendly, creative, and ambitious environment that focuses on developing legal strategies.

Primary areas of responsibility:
  1. Contract review: Review and negotiate contracts, including architectural design agreements at all stages, with clients, sub-consultants, vendors, etc. Ability to quickly analyze and advise on contractual terms with a commercial awareness, considering cultural differences in international dealings.
  2. Insurance: Review and maintain business insurances, manage renewals, advise on insurance solutions, and educate stakeholders on insurance matters.
  3. Contract negotiation: Lead negotiations from instruction to signature, liaising with internal stakeholders, clients, and external counsel to understand project needs and facilitate communication.
  4. Legal support: Provide ongoing legal advice throughout project lifecycles, explaining contract terms and obligations, supporting local and global offices.
  5. Department growth: Use expertise to expand the legal department’s scope, advising on compliance and expansion opportunities, especially in Middle Eastern projects.
  6. Risk management: Review corporate risks and advise on solutions related to data protection, compliance, confidentiality, and anti-bribery.
  7. Education: Develop initiatives to educate stakeholders on legal risks.
  8. Client relations: Support Business Development and Project teams in building legal contacts and facilitating contract negotiations.
  9. Corporate governance: Develop and maintain standards and procedures to mitigate risks and ensure compliance, including insurance management, corporate duties, and brand protection.
  10. Training & development: Educate staff on legal risks and asset protection.
We seek a person who:
  • Has 6 years PQE in a similar role within architecture, construction, or engineering industries.
  • Is approachable, a team player, capable of working independently, and managing multiple stakeholders globally.
  • Has demonstrated negotiation leadership and a successful track record in project delivery.
  • Possesses confidence, good judgment, and comfort in decision-making in ambiguous situations.
  • Is highly organized, capable of managing multiple projects, and providing high-level updates.
  • Is proactive, reliable, trustworthy, and capable of multitasking.
  • Has strong legal drafting, analytical, and communication skills, capable of simplifying complex legal language.
