We're looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join us on a 12-month fixed-term contract for maternity cover. In this role, you'll be at the heart of our legal function, advising across a wide range of legal matters that impact our products, services, and day-to-day operations.
Whether you're reviewing customer contracts, guiding new product launches, or helping shape key business-wide frameworks, you'll play a pivotal role in helping us operate smoothly and confidently. You'll be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking team that values curiosity, pragmatism, and a hands-on approach.
What you'll be doing
- Commercial Contract Management: Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including technology, IT, marketing, partnerships, and customer contracts, ensuring legal and commercial alignment.
- Legal Support for Business Initiatives: Provide practical, business-focused legal advice to stakeholders across the business to support new product launches, strategic partnerships, and other commercial initiatives.
- Supplier & Procurement Advisory: Work closely with procurement, data protection, and information security colleagues to review and advise on third-party supplier agreements and mitigate associated legal risks.
- Template & Process Ownership: Develop and maintain standard contract templates, legal processes and customer guidelines to support operational efficiency, legal compliance and consistency.
- Legal Risk Management: Identify and assess legal risks across the business, helping to design and implement policies, procedures, and frameworks that proactively manage and mitigate risk.
- Business-Wide Legal Advice: Advise on a broad spectrum of legal topics, exercising sound judgment and balancing commercial priorities with legal requirements.
- Non-Litigious Problem Solving: Collaborate with teams to resolve challenges in a practical, business-friendly way without the need for litigation.
- Compliance Monitoring: Keep on top of relevant legal and regulatory developments, supporting the business in adapting policies and practices as needed.
- Legal Reporting: Produce monthly Legal Management Information (MI) reports to support data-led decision-making and legal oversight.
- Brand & IP Support: Contribute to the implementation of a brand protection strategy, helping to safeguard the company's intellectual property.
- Legal Project Leadership: Lead on key legal projects aligned with wider business goals, ensuring timely and effective delivery.
- Team Collaboration & Support: Provide oversight, support, and mentoring to other members of the legal team, including Legal Counsel, trainees and paralegals.
Who you are
- Experienced Commercial Lawyer: You bring at least 5 years' experience, with a strong commercial law background and exposure to a range of legal topics in a business setting.
- In-House & Private Practice Blend: You've ideally worked both in-house (especially in a lean team) and at a reputable private practice firm, giving you a rounded legal perspective.
- Pragmatic & Business-Focused: You understand how to balance legal risk with commercial realities and can give clear, actionable advice to non-legal colleagues.
- Exceptional Drafting & Negotiation Skills: You're confident in your ability to structure, review, and negotiate contracts that support business goals while mitigating risk.
- Highly Organised: You're able to juggle a busy workload, prioritise effectively and stay calm under pressure in a fast-moving environment.
- Team-Oriented with Leadership Qualities: You enjoy collaborating with others, but are also capable of taking the lead and working independently when needed.
- Strong Communicator: You can simplify complex legal concepts and communicate them clearly and confidently to a variety of audiences.
- Curious, Proactive & Adaptable: You're always looking for smarter ways to work, willing to step in where needed, and comfortable in a role that evolves.
