Senior Legal Counsel

As a senior member of the legal function, you will be a trusted advisor to the business on cross-disciplinary legal issues within the MRSG Group to include strategic projects, distribution contracts, underwriting, wordings, reinsurance, service contracts, regulatory and compliance support.

Responsibilities

• Advise on and co-ordinate provision of advice on (re)insurance law issues including wordings, delegation and distribution contracts.
• Expertise in commercial and corporate contract issues to include optimising approach to intra-group agreements and third party service contracts.
• Work with and support Compliance on regulatory and sanctions matters.
• Provide legal support to MRSG’s distribution channels including international offices and in relation to Lloyd’s Europe.
• Work with Munich Re Corporate Underwriting and other Munich based lawyers to ensure all relevant group guidelines understood and implemented across MRSG. Maintain wordings and processes in accordance with group wide policies.
• Develop strategy to enhance processes aimed at achieving consistency and streamlining provision of legal advice.
• Provide training, develop template contracts and share relevant knowledge across the business.
• Support the Legal team in identifying any significant legal exposures, provide legal updates to the business and where appropriate manage external counsel instructions.
• Help drive forward good Conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders.

Knowledge and Skills

• Qualified Lawyer –Senior PQE with experience in private practice (insurance) and in-house.
• Background and specialisation in insurance law. Good understanding and experience working with the insurance industry.
• Comprehensive understanding of legislative, regulatory and competitive environment including consumer products.
• Commercially aware.
• Understand MRSG business and growth strategy.
• Good motivational and management skills.
• University Degree and/or relevant professional qualification
