We are currently recruiting to an exciting opportunity to become part of a valued team in a police constabulary, providing legal services to the Chief Constable and officers, staff and volunteers working on his behalf. The team provides legal advice on a broad range of legal issues to the whole organisation.

The ideal candidate will be able to offer an outstanding service in providing legal advice and representation mainly on civil litigation, including personal injury, malfeasance and inquests. As part of a team of lawyers, the successful candidate's principal responsibility will be to advise on liability and respond to claims brought against the Chief Constable.

Otherwise assisting within the Legal Services Department will mean working across a broad range of legal areas, which includes civil preventative orders (e.g. DVPOs) public law challenges, regulatory law, information law, family law and operational policing matters - helping to shape the policies and practices that form the operational policing approach.

This is a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. The successful candidate will need to be resilient, adaptable in their approach to case management, have the ability to take ownership and initiative, as well as demonstrate a willingness to learn. Being highly organised, working with minimum supervision and the ability to meet tight deadlines are crucial for this role. Equally important is a proactive approach that demonstrates a high level of performance and service delivery.

Candidates should have demonstrable experience in at least one or more of the following areas: Civil Litigation, Human Rights Law, Police Operational Law, Judicial Review, Employment Law or Police Misconduct.

Previous advocacy experience is required.
