Join a dynamic team as a Senior Clinical Fellow within the Thoracic Surgery service at Wythenshawe Hospital. This role provides exciting opportunities to contribute to one of the largest lung surgery centres in the UK, focusing on advanced surgical techniques and teaching opportunities. Enhance your career while supporting high-quality patient care in a diverse environment committed to inclusion and professional growth.
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow to join the MFT Thoracic Surgery service, based at Wythenshawe Hospital. The post has been created following expansion of lung cancer screening services across Greater Manchester, and at a time of considerable growth for the Thoracic Surgery service, which remains one of the largest lung surgery centres within the UK and the only service in Greater Manchester.
It is an exciting time to join our team. Our Thoracic Surgery team will be performing more than 900 anatomical lung resections per year, with around 50% performed using minimally invasive techniques, including Robotically Assisted Thoracic Surgery (RATS).
The team consists of 9 cardiothoracic registrars, including Senior Clinical Fellows (SCFs), Associate Specialists, and Higher Surgical Trainees (HSTs). The number of HSTs ranges from two to five at any time. All colleagues on this rota will be allocated to a named consultant surgeon and will undertake core activities with that consultant, including pairing during on-call weeks (Registrar of the Week RoW). Pairings rotate every 6 or 12 months. SCFs have the same training opportunities as HSTs and can expect to attend theatres and outpatient clinics regularly, gaining experience across thoracic surgery.
