About this role

We are seeking to appoint a permanent post as Senior Lecturer in Robotics, to help develop and contribute to teaching, research, and knowledge exchange within the School of Engineering.

This role presents a fantastic opportunity to shape multidisciplined robotics education. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering cutting‑edge courses in Robotics, providing mentorship to other staff and students, and contributing to research initiatives and external collaborations. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong academic background and deep practical experience or experience in collaborating with or working with robots. Additionally, we are looking for candidates with expertise in broader related areas such as robot learning, perception, planning and control, human‑robot interaction, embodied AI, and robotics software engineering.

Furthermore, individuals with a research‑oriented mind‑set will have the opportunity to explore their passions in the Bristol Robotics Laboratory, contributing to scholarly activities. If you have a portfolio of research related to Robotics or clear plans to develop one, we encourage you to apply.

About you

We are seeking candidates with a broad and diverse skill set who can effectively guide students through the principles and applications of robotics engineering. We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in robotics and autonomous systems, and with the knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm to inspire and develop our aspiring student engineers.

In addition to a strong foundation in robotics, expertise in areas such as robot learning, perception, planning and control, human‑robot interaction, embodied AI, and robotics software engineering is required. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development and engagement with advances in relevant subject areas.

Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD or doctoral qualification in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline. A teaching qualification and experience of teaching in higher education are essential. Candidates from a professional practice or industry background should hold a qualification equivalent to postgraduate degree level (or above) in Robotics or a related discipline, together with relevant professional experience within the robotics sector.

The successful appointee will join a collaborative team supporting the delivery and ongoing development of robotics‑related modules across the curriculum.
