Job summary

Job description

The Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice will make a significant contribution to the design, development, approval, and delivery of the new MPharm programme, with particular responsibility for pharmacy practice, professionalism, and patient‑centred learning.

On appointment, the postholder will play a key role in curriculum development and course approval, including active involvement in the General Pharmaceutical Council’s (GPhC) accreditation process for new MPharm courses.

Appointment may be made on either a Teaching and Scholarship or a Teaching and Research contract, depending on the experience and profile of the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute substantially to the development of the pharmacy practice curriculum within the MPharm programme, ensuring alignment with GPhC Initial Education and Training Standards.
• Lead or co‑lead the design of pharmacy practice modules, including learning outcomes, content, assessment strategies, and marking criteria.
• Deliver high‑quality teaching using a range of pedagogical approaches, including lectures, seminars, simulation‑based education, and practice‑focused learning.
• Support horizontal and vertical integration of pharmacy practice with pharmaceutical science and clinical content.
• Contribute to course approval documentation, validation events, and GPhC accreditation activities.
• Support student development in professionalism, communication skills, ethical practice, and readiness for professional training.
• Contribute to academic administration, quality assurance, and enhancement activities.
• Participate actively in course teams, School meetings, and University committees.
• Engage constructively with colleagues across disciplines and professional groups.
• Uphold University values relating to equality, diversity, inclusion, sustainability, and wellbeing.
• Maintain ongoing professional development in teaching, assessment, and (where appropriate) research.

Teaching and Scholarship Contract

• Engage in scholarship related to pharmacy practice, pedagogy, or professional education.
• Disseminate pedagogic or practice‑based work through presentations, publications, or professional forums.
• Maintain professional credibility through continued engagement with pharmacy practice and CPD.

Teaching and Research Contract

• Maintain an active research profile in pharmacy practice, pharmacy education, or a related field, with outputs of a quality appropriate for REF submission.
• Contribute to the development of research proposals and funding applications.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, and co‑supervise doctoral students where appropriate.
• Embed research activity within teaching and curriculum design.

Selection methods:

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to deliver a presentation and a teaching session, followed by a formal panel interview. The presentation and teaching briefs are as follows:

Presentation:

• Please deliver a 20-minute presentation outlining your plans for developing the pharmacy practice curriculum for the MPharm at University of Worcester.

Teaching session:

• Please facilitate a 30-minute interactive teaching session on a pharmacy practice topic of your choice, suitable for Level 4 undergraduate MPharm students.

Please note, the presentation and teaching session will take place on campus on Day 1 of the selection process, with successful candidates at that stage progressing to the formal panel interview on Day 2.
