We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Learning Disability Nurse for a split role to join our teams at HMP Rye Hill (cat B) and HMP Onley (cat C), prisons located next to each other in Rugby. HMP Rye Hill has a capacity of 660 male inmates; HMP Onley has a capacity of 745 male inmates. We are looking for someone with experience in learning disabilities who can work in a challenging environment.

Hours:

  • Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week
  • Split over 2 sites, 18.75 hours at each site
  • 8:00am – 4:00pm with 30 minutes lunch

Salary:

This position is full time. You’ll receive an annual salary between £43,609.00 and £49,175.00 per annum FTE, depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Learning Disability Nurse, your responsibilities will include managing the day-to-day operational functioning of the Mental Health team and taking responsibility for a caseload. You will be accountable for all aspects of delivering a nursing service for adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour within a criminal justice setting. You will work with adults whose behaviours have resulted in their offending and are in contact with the criminal justice system, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to undertake person-centred, specialist behavioural assessments and to plan and coordinate positive non-aversive behavioural approaches to service users.

  • Manage day-to-day operational functioning of the Mental Health team
  • Be accountable for a nursing service for adults with learning disabilities/challenging behaviour in a custodial setting
  • Work with adults whose behaviours relate to offending and involvement with the criminal justice system
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team on person-centred assessments and behavioural planning

Qualifications required
  • Current NMC registration – Learning Disabilities
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Experience working with patients face-to-face who have complex mental health conditions
  • Experience with psychosocial interventions, group work, and awareness of substance misuse
  • Sound clinical knowledge and assessment skills including risk assessment
