Job summary

London Local Authority is seeking a Principal Transport Planner (Active Travel) to lead its Climate & Transport team on a long-term interim basis. You will drive the active travel programme, oversee micromobility provisions and manage senior stakeholders to secure funding and deliver high-quality infrastructure.

The role emphasizes strategic transport planning, delivery of cycling and walking schemes, and integrating active travel priorities with planning and public realm programmes.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience at Principal Transport Planner or Senior Transport Planner level, ideally within a local authority, TfL or consultancy.
• Strong experience across Active Travel / Sustainable Transport, cycling infrastructure and walking schemes.
• Experience with micromobility and shared/e-bike programmes.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and delivery of the council's active travel strategy, programme and policy.
• Oversee major cycling and walking schemes including cycle lanes and corridor-based schemes.
• Manage cycling infrastructure delivery such as cycle parking, hubs and public realm improvements.
• Lead programmes on walking, cycling, sustainable travel and behaviour change.
• Coordinate micromobility initiatives, including e-bike schemes and operator management.
