The role:

You will provide technical expertise to the Head of Future Power System and lead projects related to energy system scenario planning and technical modelling to support decision-making for a net-zero power system.

• Develop and lead technical modelling programmes for National and European studies, providing insights for reports.
• Support model development to enhance scenario frameworks aligned with government policies.
• Provide technical leadership to improve modelling agility and flexibility for long-term scenarios in Northern Ireland.
• Collaborate with IT to select suitable software and hardware solutions for techno-economic modelling.
• Represent SONI at internal and external forums regarding technical studies for jurisdictional and all-island projects.

What we’re looking for:

• University degree in engineering, economics, mathematics, or related field, with a minimum of 5 years in power system industry and electricity markets.
• Advanced technical knowledge of energy systems, demand forecasting, interconnection, and storage technology.
• Experience with modelling tools used in energy system scenario planning.
• Proficiency in Excel, macro development, and Python coding for data analysis.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Knowledge of how the SEM operates and modelling it would be desirable.
