Job summary

Herefordshire Council is seeking a Lead Child Protection Practitioner to join the MACPT in Hereford. The role focuses on practice leadership, decision support for safeguarding cases, and cross-agency collaboration to protect children.

Successful applicants will have SSWE registration, a social work qualification, and at least three years in frontline child protection, with strong analytical and supervisory abilities. The post offers a generous package and relocation support.

Qualifications

• Registered with Social Work England and holding a recognised Social Work qualification (Degree in Social Work, DipSW, or CQSW).
• Minimum 3 years’ frontline child protection and safeguarding experience.
• Strong analytical, risk assessment and decision-making skills.
• Experience of multi-agency working at strategic and operational levels.

Responsibilities

• Provide practice leadership and oversight on complex child protection cases.
• Support decision-making and quality assurance of Section 47 enquiries.
• Work with police, health and education to ensure robust multi-agency safeguarding responses.
• Offer coaching, mentoring and reflective supervision to social workers.
• Participate in strategic discussions ensuring clear risk analysis and planning.
• Drive continuous improvement and contribute to service development.
