Job summary

Epic Games is seeking an experienced Senior Language Programmer to join the Verse team, owning the Verse compiler toolchain and runtime that powers Unreal Engine and UEFN.

You will extend, optimize, and maintain the Verse compiler, VM, and scripting interfaces, collaborating with the UE engineering organization to deliver performant tooling for developers worldwide.

Qualifications

• Expert knowledge of C++17 or later.
• Experience in compiler or toolchain development (compiler internals, VM, Clang/LLVM, or ABI specifics).
• Experience with large codebases; balance usability, performance and power.
• Strong API design and software engineering fundamentals.
• Excellent communication and collaboration; capable of working autonomously.
• Unreal Engine integration experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Add platform support and implement new language features for UE/Verse.

What You’ll Do

Epic Games is seeking an experienced Senior Language Programmer to join our Verse team, which owns the toolchain (compiler, VM, and runtime) that powers game development in Unreal Engine and UEFN. You’ll work on the systems every UE and UEFN developer relies on to build and ship games with Verse.

In this role, you will

• Extend, evolve, and maintain the Verse compiler toolchain, transactional memory runtime and VM, add new platform support, implement new language features and integrate with Unreal Engine's content, build, and cooking pipelines
• Optimize performance, memory usage, and iteration times across the Verse toolchain, runtime and UE/Verse boundary
• Work closely with language consumers to ensure an exceptional user experience
• Establish test workflows to validate improvements and prevent regressions
• Design and maintain the scripting interface to Unreal Engine, working in close collaboration with the Verse Language team and the broader UE engineering organization

What we’re looking for

• Expert knowledge of C++17 or later
• Experience in compiler or toolchain development (e.g., compiler internals, VM design, Clang/LLVM, or linker/platform ABI specifics)
• Experience developing and optimizing large codebases, with the ability to make tradeoffs between usability, performance, and power
• Strong ability to reason about large, interconnected systems
• Solid grounding in software engineering principles, including API design
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work autonomously and deliver practical solutions
• Experience with Unreal Engine integration is a plus
