We are looking for a Chartered Senior Landscape Architect (SLA) to join our National Environmental Assessment Service team (NEAS). The Senior Landscape Architect is a chartered landscape architect, supporting delivery of the FCRM capital programme by providing specialist advice to teams delivering strategies, plans and projects with a high or medium level of risk to the landscape.

NEAS manage the environmental assessment of many of the Environment Agency’s capital projects and the Strategic Environmental Assessment of relevant Strategies and Plans to ensure projects fully comply with environmental legislation and policy.

We currently have a vacancy in the Eastern Hub. Applicants successful at interview from any geographical location will be held on our reserve list for the next 6 months and may be offered roles in other teams nationally if vacancies arise.

Duties will include:

Providing assurance on compliance with environmental legislation, including the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, and conformance with Government and Environment Agency plans, policies and strategies relating to landscape.

Supporting the consenting process around works affecting designated landscape sites and engage with stakeholders and landscape groups to facilitate delivery of environmental outcomes.

Supporting compliance with planning consents during construction and advise on landscape establishment and aftercare contracts.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you.

The team

NEAS is divided into 6 operational Hubs, each led by an Operational Unit Manager, supported by Principal Specialists providing technical leadership, and Team Leaders. Each team works collaboratively with our environmental supply partners to provide technical expertise and support day-to-day delivery of projects within our flood & coastal erosion risk management programme.

You’ll be a member of a team comprised of colleagues with professional backgrounds in archaeology/heritage, ecology, environmental assessment, sustainability, carbon and landscape design.

Essential

Experience/skills required

  • Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute with professional experience.
  • Experience of landscape planning, landscape and visual appraisal and impact assessment, landscape design and contract administration.
  • Experience of working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Effective communication.
  • Effective interpersonal and influencing skills enabling a collaborative environment.


Advantageous

  • Knowledge of flood and coastal risk management, however in house training is available.
  • Conversant in project management terminology


You will be offered comprehensive induction/training and will be given the time and space to learn while performing the role. You will be given opportunities for CPD and training.

Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute (CMLI)
