Job description

The Role

This exciting role will initially take a lead role in getting our new ICP-MS lab up and running, in addition to being a senior member of the team with responsibility for IRMS instruments.

Key Responsibilities

ICP-MS Lead Technician

  • Method development, improvement, and optimisation including validation studies.
  • Routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Development of SOP’s and ancillary documentation.
  • Internal auditing and technical method reviews.
  • Reviewing emerging industry issues and technologies.

Senior Laboratory Technician

  • Responsibility for the SIRA instrument lab.
  • Responsible for day-to-day tasks in the laboratory covering methodologies in SIRA and FTIR.Daily tasks include but not limited to sample processing / preparation, soxhlet extractions, freeze drying, weighing and microwave digestion.
  • To assist in scheduling batches to optimise machine efficiency and customer requirements.
  • Ensure that all samples received into the laboratory are processed in line with SOPs in a timely manner to ensure turnaround times are optimised.
  • Play an important role in the smooth operation of the Laboratory in accordance with our standard operating procedures.
  • You are encouraged to work collaboratively with other members of the team to ensure turnaround times are met and aid resource planning.
  • To aid in the maintenance of the laboratory and equipment through scheduled maintenance and calibration tasks. Tracking consumable usage to maintain stock levels.
  • Any other tasks as reasonably assigned to you (training will always be provided).

About you

  • Degree and relevant experience working within a Laboratory (preferably a food testing lab)
  • In depth knowledge on maintenance and troubleshooting for ICP-MS and/or IRMS
  • Knowledge and exposure of method validation to meet ISO17025 requirements
  • Broad knowledge of the analytical requirements for the food and beverage industry
  • Proven effectiveness in managing timely and cost-effective delivery of technical services/research outputs.
  • Excellent organisational and record keeping skills
  • An ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • High levels of confidentiality at all times
  • An ability to remain calm when dealing with multiple priorities
  • Strong IT skills

Normal working days Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week) 8am-4.30pm or 8.30am-5pm

The role is based at our lab in Norwich.
