The Methodist Church in Britain seeks a senior technician in the Department of Physics within the School of Engineering, Physics and Mathematics. You will manage and improve laboratories, train staff and students, and support teaching, research and commercial activities.

Working in a multidisciplinary technical team, you will operate and maintain equipment, develop risk assessments and uphold COSHH and safety standards, ensuring high-quality outputs while balancing multiple priorities.

Formación

• Degree or HND in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
• Hands-on experience operating and maintaining specialist laboratory equipment such as lasers, vacuum systems, microscopes, spectroscopy, X-ray analysis, oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers and solar simulators.
• Proven ability to independently diagnose complex technical faults and implement solutions; Proven experience implementing and managing health and safety requirements in science/engineering environments.

Responsabilidades

• Provide specialist technical expertise to support teaching, research, knowledge exchange and commercial activities
• Manage, maintain and enhance the School's laboratories and technical facilities, including NESST
• Work with academic staff, industry collaborators and sector specialists on research and technology development
• Deliver specialist technical training to staff and students
• Operate and maintain specialist laboratory equipment
• Diagnose complex technical faults in equipment and implement effective solutions
• Guide, train and support users from students and early-career researchers to experienced academics and external partners
• Maintain technical records, equipment maintenance logs, data logs, operational documentation and incident reports
• Develop, review and apply risk assessments, standard operating procedures, COSHH assessments and compliance documentation
• Provide guidance to staff and students on safe and effective working practices
• Manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work within agreed timescales
