Job description

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Laboratory Operations and Logistics Manager to join the Oxford Molecular & Cellular Diagnostics Centre (OMCDC), Department of Oncology. The post holder will provide managerial, logistics and administrative support to ensure the delivery of agreed outcomes of projects undertaken by the OMCDC, as well as contribute to the development and advertisement of the OMCDC’s expanding portfolio. They will not only be involved in project planning and monitoring, but also in preparing activity reports for internal and external users and stakeholders, and contributing to the budget review and financial planning for the OMCDC.

The focus of the OMCDC is to develop, validate and provide novel genomics technologies for clinical trials and translational research. The Centre is a fully clinically accredited laboratory that operates in close collaboration with the NHS Oxford University Hospitals.

You will manage a broad portfolio of molecular & cellular diagnostics projects, liaising with senior and junior laboratory, clinical and informatics stakeholders, generating project plans, supporting resource planning and reporting on project progress to users and customers. You will also ensure the OMCDC runs smoothly; this will include supporting procurement, monitoring clinical recruitment, and leading the implementation and maintenance of Quality Management Systems. You will manage a team of technicians who will act as a nimble and rapidly deployable resource within OMCDC and its academic partners.

The post is based at the OMCDC, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, OX3 9DU. Please note that there is a possibility that the role may move to the Radiobiology Research Institute, Churchill Hospital, OX3 7LJ in the future. The post is offered on a full-time, fixed-term basis until 31 December 2027.

About you

You will have a postgraduate qualification in clinical sciences, molecular biology or a similar discipline, with demonstrable experience in laboratory operations management in a regulated diagnostic or research environment . You will have proven project-management expertise, especially in a laboratory setting with a substantial project portfolio. Knowledge of regulatory frameworks of laboratory management in the UK is essential for this role as well as experience in managing procurement and resource allocation within a laboratory setting. Experience managing multi-disciplinary technical teams is also essential.
