About the role

Duration: The post is available ASAP and is funded until 31/07/2025.

The Senior Laboratory Manager will be a key member of the IoO Operations team, responsible for managing Oriel operational readiness projects as part of the IoO Services Transition Workstream. The role involves preparing labs for the move, working with research leads to wind down experiments, coordinating decommissioning of equipment and labs, and managing remaining assets. The role holder will directly line manage a Technician working on the Oriel project.

The postholder is expected to work independently and collaboratively with the wider Oriel team, laboratory management, colleagues within IoO and UCL, and external stakeholders to ensure effective operational readiness activities.

This position is open to external candidates on a fixed-term basis and to UCL internal candidates on a secondment basis. Please discuss secondment possibilities with your line manager before applying.

About you

The successful candidate will have a BSc degree in a relevant subject or substantial relevant experience, with practical and technical experience in a research laboratory.

A project management qualification or relevant experience in transformational projects is essential, along with demonstrable experience managing change from inception to successful implementation.

You should have experience in building relationships with stakeholders at all levels and working collaboratively in cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams, actively shaping developments. Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences are essential.
