The Opportunity

Herbert Smith Freehills is one of the world’s leading law firms, bringing together the best people across our 27 global offices. We are looking for a Senior Knowledge Manager with a core focus on systems. The role will evolve and optimise our knowledge solutions to deliver a cohesive user experience. You are a natural leader who can inspire others and drive the firm forward with new ways of working.

You will have superb analytical skills, be comfortable consulting across levels and roles, and influencing effective change. You will work collaboratively with heads of practice, knowledge specialists, partners, lawyers, and business services staff. This role is ideal for an experienced knowledge systems practitioner with an advanced understanding of legal knowledge and technology.

Supported by a global knowledge & research team, with business sponsors eager for your leadership, this London-based position offers a fascinating and challenging opportunity.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Leading knowledge systems strategy development and implementation for the relevant region and area.
  2. Supporting practice groups in developing their approach to knowledge management.
  3. Determining optimal processes and technology for capturing, managing, and delivering knowledge assets.
  4. Establishing and developing systems and support frameworks aligned with practice group requirements.
  5. Leading the development of functionality within knowledge solutions to meet practice needs.
  6. Working with the global knowledge team to develop quality control processes for knowledge assets.
  7. Collaborating with counterparts across the firm to create a globally connected knowledge & research function.
  8. Engaging with senior stakeholders, especially IT and Legal Delivery teams, to ensure effective knowledge-related technology systems and processes.
  9. Improving user experience and facilitating adoption of knowledge technologies.
  10. Optimising integration between systems to reduce information silos.
  11. Identifying opportunities to create value from client-facing knowledge products and services.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
  • 8+ years of experience in knowledge systems management and change management in legal or professional services.
  • Deep awareness of current and emerging technologies relevant to knowledge and collaboration.
  • Understanding of legal workflows related to knowledge submission and delivery.
  • Strong project management, leadership, and influencing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Experience with legal knowledge sharing systems and processes.
  • Proficiency in designing and building SharePoint Online-based knowledge solutions or similar technologies.
