Job Introduction

The BBC Serbian Service is part of the BBC World Service, delivering impartial and in-depth news and analysis to Serbian-speaking audiences worldwide. With a focus on digital innovation, we produce content that resonates with our audience, utilizing modern storytelling techniques across various platforms, including our website and social media channels.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Digital Journalist to join our dynamic team in Belgrade. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Serbian media landscape and a commitment to delivering high-quality journalism that informs and engages our audience.

Main Responsibilities

• Originate and produce stories, including scripting, editing, filming, and presenting content across various BBC platforms.
• Propose, research, write, and edit insightful reports and analytical pieces that meet the BBC's high journalistic standards and editorial guidelines.
• Monitor breaking news, alert editors promptly, and deliver accurate, on-the-spot reports as needed.
• Utilize all available formats and platforms, with a particular emphasis on social media, to effectively tell stories and reach diverse audiences.
• Contribute to the news diary by generating realistic coverage ideas and collaborating with other BBC reporters and producers in the field.
• Provide regular updates on news developments, offer guidance on agency or newspaper stories, and brief on government policies.
• Gather material reflective of the audiences we serve for broadcast on news topics and events.
• Deliver timely, specialist, and confident news coverage and analysis of events of interest to the BBC's audiences.
• Maintain regular and clear communication with Editors, ensuring everyone is informed of movements and contact details throughout assignments.
• Meet tight deadlines while upholding the highest editorial standards.
• Adhere to the BBC's health and safety policies at all times.

Are you the right candidate?

• Fluent proficiency in Serbian.
• High proficiency in English; proficiency in Russian is an advantage.
• Experience working as a digital desk editor.
• Proven record of high editorial judgment.
• Experience in live broadcasting, including live breaking news, with a strong on-screen presence and effective communication skills tailored to the target audience.
• Knowledge of and aptitude for using multimedia technology.
