Methods Business and Digital Technology in Glasgow is seeking a Senior Java / SQL Developer to design, develop, and support enterprise-grade applications and data solutions. You will work across the full software development lifecycle, collaborating with architects, developers, DevOps engineers, and stakeholders to deliver scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional Java experience (11+ preferred).
• Expert knowledge of relational databases and query tuning.
• Strong hands-on with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud or Hibernate.
• Deep understanding of Microservices, RESTful APIs and EDA.
• Proficient with Git and CI/CD pipelines and build tools (Maven/Gradle).
• Desirable: Scala background; Big Data exposure (Spark/Kafka/Hadoop); Cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Experience in banking or financial services is advantageous.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills; able to lead projects.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications and services.
• Build and optimise complex SQL queries and database solutions.
• Develop scalable APIs and microservices architectures.
• Analyse requirements and translate into technical solutions.
• Troubleshoot production issues and performance bottlenecks.
• Participate in code reviews and promote best practices.
• Ensure security, quality and performance standards.
• Contribute to CI/CD and automated deployments.
• Support production systems and critical applications.
• Mentor junior developers and grow the team’s capabilities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Agile delivery.
