What will you be doing?

ALTEN UK is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer / Developer to support the development of mission-critical applications, combining embedded systems, enterprise-level architecture, and user interface development.

You will be instrumental in defining software architecture, implementing robust Java solutions, and ensuring high-quality delivery from concept through deployment.

Your main responsibilities will be:

• Lead and contribute to software architecture and design for complex embedded and enterprise-level applications.
• Develop advanced Java components and services with a focus on performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Design and implement UIs using the MVC (Model-View-Controller) pattern.
• Apply Object-Oriented Development (OOD) principles across the entire software lifecycle.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate software into broader system architectures.
• Design and manage relational databases, including data modelling and optimization of data structures.
• Use source control systems like Git or SVN to efficiently manage codebases and development workflows.
• Uphold and advocate software engineering best practices, including testing strategies, CI/CD integration, and clean coding standards.

Qualifications

Experience, skills and qualifications required:

• Advanced proficiency in Java, with demonstrated experience in developing complex systems.
• Solid understanding of Relational Databases and Data Modelling techniques.
• Practical experience in Object-Oriented Development (OOD), applying design principles and patterns (e.g., SOLID, GoF).
• Proven experience in UI development using MVC design patterns (e.g., Spring MVC, JavaFX, JSF).
• Proficiency with source control systems such as Git or SVN.
• Experience using Eclipse IDE for Java development.
• Strong UI/UX development skills, preferably using Java UI frameworks.
• Experience with Object-Relational Mapping (ORM), especially Java persistence technologies like JPA or Hibernate.
• Demonstrated software/system design expertise, including architecture-level decision-making.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, preferably using Azure DevOps or similar platforms.
